If you are a Teachers' Retirement System (TRS) member and you are contemplating retirement, you should contact the UAB Benefits Office at least 90 days prior to your expected retirement date so that there will not be a delay in the beginning of retirement compensation.
- Faculty members are expected to give one year written notice of retirement
- Staff employees should give at least one month notice in writing
Retirement notes:
- Individuals must retire on the first of a month (examples: February 1, August 1, December 1)
- Why 90 days out? Working with the Benefits Department 90 days out will ensure that your information is compiled and complete and that you will not have a delay in retirement income
