Changes to benefits can only be made due to a qualifying life event (marriage, birth, loss of coverage etc.). Employees can make benefit election changes at that time within 31 days of a qualifying life event per IRS regulations governing UAB’s pre-tax health insurance plans. Documentation to prove the life event must be loaded into the UAB for Me Benefits Portal. Otherwise, outside of a qualifying life event, changes to benefits can only be made during open enrollment for the next plan year.
