HR QUICK GUIDE: Employee Health Department

This HR Quick Guide is designed to help you understand who and what the UAB Employee Health Department is, what it does and how you may interact with them.

TOPICS CONTAINED HERE

What is the Employee Health Department at UAB?

UAB Employee Health provides occupational health related services for UAB employees. If your job requires it, you may work with Employee Health for pre-employment physicals, vaccines, tuberculosis (TB) skin tests, N95 fit tests and more.

What services does Employee Health provide?

  • Pre-employment physicals, vaccines
  • Leave processing (medical documentation support)
  • Needlestick and other exposure to blood and bodily fluids response
  • Orientation and in-service education and training

Needlesticks, blood and bodily fluid exposures

A "Needlestick Team" RN is on call after hours for evaluation of needle sticks and other exposures to blood or body fluids. The Needlestick Team can be reached by calling UAB Paging at 934-3411.

How is Employee Health involved in leave of absences?

Employee health is involved at the front and back end of the medical leave process. Employee health receives and processes medical documentation for leaves. If you are requesting a leave of absence for medical reasons, part of the process is providing health care provider medical certification forms. Completed forms can be sent to UAB Employee Health at medleavesdocs@uabmc.edu or faxed to 205-975-6900. For more on the UAB leave request process, visit the UAB HR Time Off & Leaves of Absence web page.

Employee Return to Work

Following a medical leave of absence, employees will send a completed leave of absence return to work form to the Employee Health Department.
