If taking FMLA leave for my son or daughter, is there an age limit?

In general, Family and Medical Leave (FMLA) is intended to enable an employee to care for a son or daughter who is 18 years or younger. However, an employee may take FMLA leave to care for a biological, adopted, or foster child, stepchild, a legal ward, or a child to whom the employee stands in loco parentis, who is 18 years of age or older and incapable of self-care because of a mental or physical disability at the time that FMLA leave is to commence.

Supporting definitions for the policy (including son and daughter) are here.

To initiate a leave of absence request, go to the Leave of Absence Site, administered by UAB Records Administration.
